Learning project
This cultural simulation takes a close look at the development of (cultural) perspectives. In an impressive experience, two mini-cultures are first developed. Their characters and characteristics are then examined in relation to each other. This contrast makes it clear that cultural influence has primarily to do with values and inner attitudes.
Implementation
In two separate rooms, half of the group is given the task of developing their own cultural identity according to specific guidelines. These cultural microcosms have their own rituals, values and ways of acting. Once the mini-cultures have been developed, observers from one culture explore the way of life of the other. Afterwards, the participants from each culture are asked to design a ‘travel guide’ about the other culture. The culmination of the learning project is then the mutual presentation of the previously designed ‘travel guides’. In a showdown accompanied by lots of oohs and aahs, numerous prejudices, attitudes and stereotypes that had arisen up to that point are uncovered and their origins made transparent. This two-culture simulation impressively demonstrates to the group how ‘cultural blinders’ are created. Should participants learn to respect and deal with differences? The StrangeWorld simulation is the perfect tool for this!
