Learning project
The mastermind behind this ingenious construction is none other than Leonardo Da Vinci, who had the idea of designing a portable bridge that could be assembled without tools as early as 1480. Stability within the group and the ability to overcome ‘divisions’ are important goals of the collaboration. But first, the bridge must be built. Set your participants this challenge! Building the bridge promotes creative team spirit and offers a visible result that will leave a lasting impression on the group.
Implementation
The participants are given the task of constructing a self-supporting bridge with a span of 4 metres from 28 rods without any additional aids. After brainstorming ideas in small groups, all participants plan the bridge construction using a model. Only through coordination, creativity and the exchange of know-how among themselves will they succeed in building the bridge. The result is a self-supporting structure that serves as an excellent metaphor for the stability of the team, both externally and internally. Bridge building can also serve to bring two teams together, for example in an intercultural context. To do this, the seminar participants begin construction at both ends simultaneously so that they can finally assemble the bridge in the middle. This symbolic bridge building requires coordination and mutual adaptation of the construction methods of both subgroups.
