Learning project
Excitement and enthusiasm are palpable as the participants carefully place their colourful stones. The aim is to create a domino world within a limited time. As in a real project, different sub-teams work on sections of a larger whole. There are numerous challenges to overcome and certain specifications to meet. Will the group manage to place the stones in such a way that at least 75% of them will fall over in the end?
Implementation
After the starting signal, the group feverishly sets to work. Coordinated by “moderators”, the task is to develop solutions for the various construction challenges in a focused manner. Again and again, you hear “...oh no, not now...” when someone accidentally causes part of the painstakingly constructed domino chain to fall over in a flash. Only the built-in “emergency brakes” – two stones removed from the chain – interrupt the premature chain reaction. With intense concentration, interfaces between sections of the project are clarified so that everything is ready for the big moment: triggering the final chain reaction. At least three-quarters of the stones should fall over on their own after the start. To achieve this, it is necessary to develop a feel for the correct spacing of the stones and to master the functionality of junctions, intersections, height differences and other challenges in various test phases. The “moderators” ensure the flow of communication between the sub-teams and repeatedly invite the entire group to use team rituals they have developed themselves for motivation.
