The fact that the use of resources is of central importance to all of us is repeatedly highlighted in various contexts within our society. This applies to ecosystems as well as businesses. Ecopoly brings the use of scarce resources to life and links the abstract concept of “sustainability” with concrete experiences. This enables effective discussions about values.
Implementation
Three teams are tasked with maximising the stock of a scarce resource in their system. To do this, they must “apply” for their desired quantity from the trainer over several rounds. Many teams rush into the task and immediately lose sight of the big picture. If too much is demanded, the system cannot regenerate. On the other hand, through forward-looking action and cooperation, the simulation can be kept in balance in the long term.
